Transpersonal psychotherapy and counselling is not just for people in crisis or for when you feel stuck in life, trying to find solutions. Many people don't realise the importance of 'making friends' with the subconscious mind to improve our everyday experience of living and to explore some of life's big questions such as 'who am I'. If you use the analogy of an iceberg, we are only conscious of the part of the mind that is like the tip of an iceberg - that which can be seen above the water. The remaining unconscious levels of our psyche remain hidden from view and outside the realm of our conscious experience. This hidden part of the mind, which we also call the shadow aspect of the self, holds all of the motivators for our behaviours and beliefs, trauma experiences from childhood or earlier, buried emotions and anxieties, and so much more. When we become aware of these 'shadow' areas of the mind, we can integrate them and free ourselves from reactive, irrational behaviour that is motivated by these disowned or unrealised parts of our psyche.
When this integration occurs we become free to live our lives more purposefully and with the clarity that comes from knowing ourselves at a much deeper level. There is greater peace of mind when you understand the territory and you won't also make the same mistakes again e.g. being attracted to the same kind of partner!
This is also a journey that will allow you love yourself as you are - a remarkably complex, sensitive and vulnerable human being.
